Breathing Space Day

Food for thought, food for the soul, give your spirit a break.

An opportunity to give ourselves a time of relaxation, do something different from our usual busy life, try something new or have the time to practise something that we already know.

Breathe, enjoy.

The theme of the day, or rather themes that are linked, include techniques to find and develop our inner strength, how to create within ourselves peace, calm and serenity, and to practise mindfulness. We have chosen easy techniques that anyone can do, regardless of their age or stage of fitness,  and we hope that you will be able to practise these after the weekend

CHI KUNG is based on the ancient Chinese theory of meridians, and consists of both physical and “inner” exercises.
It is a blend of movements, controlled breathing and visualisation, reflecting the traditional holistic concept of mind-body-spirit.
Chi Kung can be divided into two main styles, internal and external exercises.
External exercises work mainly on the physical body, they tone and regulate the body’s muscles and help to build the Chi energy.
Internal exercises work with the internal organs and also involve the awareness and the mind, bringing calmness, relaxation and spiritual enlightenment. Like T’ai Chi, Chi Kung is the art of developing Chi energy for health and internal strength, and is also a means to achieve peace of mind and spiritual development.
A lot of research is being carried out regarding the effect of regular practice of Chi Kung on brain waves pattern and mental health.

CREATIVE VISUALIZATION is a type of mindfulness exercise that can be used to promote improvement in every area of life by using your imagination and putting together visual mental imagery of what you are wanting to manifest.
The technique has been around for a long time, has been well-researched, and its usefulness has been demonstrated. For example, this is a popular technique in the preparation of seasoned athletes for competition.

CHANTING is a rhythmical repetition of a song, prayer, word or sound. It is one of the most ancient spiritual practices and a part of most religions and spiritual paths.
Sound is believed to be one of the most powerful forces. Chanting deepens the concentration, calms the mind and improves the awareness.

CONTROLLED BREATHING and breathing exercises, if practised regularly help you relax, because they make your body feel like it does when you are already relaxed. Your breath is a powerful tool, and controlled breathing is one of the best ways to lower stress in the body.
When you breathe deeply, a message is sent to your brain to calm down and relax. The brain then sends this message to your body. Those things that happen when you are stressed, such as increased heart rate, fast breathing, and high blood pressure, all decrease as you breathe deeply to relax.
The way you breathe affects your whole body. Some simple breathing exercises can make a big difference if you make them part of your regular routine.
